Meeting Setup:
Everyone can contribute a topic to discuss.
We will follow through the agenda and conduct a roundtable on each item.
Each person will be asked to comment unless they have nothing to add, to ensure everyone's views and ideas are heard.
Agenda:
- 2014 Achievements (15 min)
- Working Group Community Management (20 min)
- What is needed to grow the working group (global and local)?
- Twitter is kinda taking the action away from us. It's more immediate. It's not our fault. The mailing list is excellent but it's a different technology
- The mailing list certainly still has it's uses obviously e.g. Calls for X on the mailing list I feel are still very impactful
- Focus on concrete projects and offer opportunity to talk about practical things.
- Projects where people are doing open science toolkits.
- Include more people globally
- Working group calls:
- How are they working?
- What could we try?
- Any updates or thoughts yet on how to do something more timezone friendly for Asia-Pacific?
- Open Science Ambassadors:
- What should this scheme look like?
- What are the benefits?
- How might it fit with other schemes? e.g. Panton Fellows, Open Access Ambassadors (taken), Open Access Mentors (taken)
- Thoughts: http://wiki.okfn.org/Open_Science/Local/Guide
- admittedly published as I got a bit wiki crazy but can easily be changed - even the Local Groups Coordinator hasn't read them yet ;)
Maybe look at http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSGeo_Advocate
- Update tools
- what are the central tools for knowledge management and communication right now?
- Mailman is really bad!
- Started new tools:
- Microgrants and other funding
- Aiming for £5000 a year
- travel funding great idea - support someone to go to an interesting conference & write-up a quality blogpost afterwards (and present about OK Science)
- Focus for 2015 (20 min)
- What should the working group focus on in 2015?
- Establishing a regular open science London meetup!!!
- "We've got so much momentum, make it happen" said Ross
- Take over the world ;)
- In-person events are a strength
- What would be most useful based on what other organisations are doing?
- Need to get advisory board feedback on plans by end of 2014
- Wrap-up and review action points (5 min)
- RM to block jackie@sdiwc.info from posting to open-science@lists.okfn.org (apologies, should have done this a while back. Too. Much. Spam.)
- Jenny to feed back to coordinators on discourse
Notes:
Generation Open: A Diary of OpenCon 2014 http://rossmounce.co.uk/2014/11/20/opencon2014/ Great post from Ross - the swapping shirts section was ace. One great example was this https://twitter.com/rmounce/status/534829874234818563 Thanks! Am totally going to do badge & sticker swapping too in future
Action points:
Plan London open science events RM volunteering to help/talk but can't organise venue (no home London institution)
Perhaps more generally a focus on in-person presentations/meetng
