e_cabin_3 How do librarians empower themselves in bureacratic systems?

Choose your battles vs. choose your allies
Speak the language (organizational, institutional, administrative)
What do you have to offer?
Keep it away from the patrons! (don't let them see the man behind the curtain)

From a manager's perspective:

Give them some autonomy, trust them enough to delegate
    NO micromanagement
    Give them feedback

    Put yourself in their shoes
Listen (even if they're not making any sense)

A good leader is important, but so is staff effort
People need to hear what they;re doing right, make the results visible

How can associations create spaces to empower librarians?
Example: Emerging leaders, ALA
Example: Cycling for libraries :)
