OFF_survey
Subject: Survey of target audiences of Open Food Facts.
Contributors: Cedric Lombion, Stéphane Gigandet
- 1. WHAT DO WE WANT TO KNOW (GOAL BASED)
In a previous pad (https://pad.okfn.org/p/OFF_audience ) we wrote down the goals of the project along with its target audiences.
We will use this information to define the scope of the survey. For each of the main goal, a number of questions should be answered to reach it.
The first part of the survey making process requires us to write down these questions.
It's okay if some questions are repeated under two or more goals, it just means that they're important.
GOAL 1 : Make it easy to contribute data to the database
- Who contributes? > Survey, GA has some broad demographics, interests, geo etc. segments, Gender , religion ??
- Who does not contribute and why? -> Survey (registered users without contributions, GA)
- Why did they take interest in the project? > Survey
- What is their motivation for contributing? > Survey
- In which context do they contribute (random pick in the fridge, full bag after shopping, during shopping...) > Survey
- When do they stop contributing? > Contribution statistics
- Why do they stop contributing? > Survey
- How do they contribute? > Contribution statistics
- Do they find it easy to contribute? > Survey
- Are the contribution rules clear to contributors? > Survey
- What could improve their process? > Google Analytics, Survey
- What decided them to make their first contribution? > Survey
- What could motivate them to add more products? > Survey
- How fast did they become contributors? > Survey
- Do they contribute to other projects? > Survey
- How did they learn about OFF? > Survey
- What could help them to tell more people about OFF? > Survey
- Are contributors interested in doing more than adding products? i.e organizing events, ..... > Survey
GOAL 2 : Being an exhaustive platform that works well for developers
- Which developer use the database? > Known list of apps, API referers
- What do they build with it? > Known list of apps
- Why do they build an app that uses this data? > Survey
- What could improve the experience of developers? > Survey
- Do developers get complementary data elsewhere? > Survey, Apps descriptions
- How successful are the apps? > Survey, API referers
- How many apps users contribute data to OFF through the app? -> API referers, Contributions
- ...
GOAL 3: Allow for obvious uses with the data
- Who are the users? > Survey, GA
- What information do users seek? > Survey, GA
- What do they do with it? > Survey
- When do they search for data? > Survey
- How do users access the data? (app or gsearch) > GA
- How frequently do they search for information? > GA
- What would they like to know that is not on the website? > Survey
- ...
GOAL 4: Provide a toolbox to help make sense of the data
- Does the data make sense for users? > Survey
- How do they use the data? > Survey
- ...
- 2. WHAT DO WE WANT TO KNOW? (CONTRIBUTION MODEL)
As proposed by @kambal, we will complete the set of questions by relying on a contribution model as outlined here: http://irevolution.net/2010/05/05/towards-a-model-for-successful-crowdsourcing/
this model is specifically tailored for organisations relying on crowdsourcing, and helps making sure that the project is a sucess.
SUCESS FACTOR 1: Vision & Strategy
- Are OFF's vision and strategy clear enough? > General research, survey
- Is OFF's vision shared by its contributors? > survey
- ...
SUCESS FACTOR 2: Human Capital
- What are the key skills required to be able to contribute to the project? > General research
- What are the additional skills that make contribution more efficient? > General research
- What is the level of skill of current contributors? > Contribution stats, survey
- Do some contributors work in the food field (producers, safety agencies, health related NGOs, local government)? > survey
- What is the articulation between private involvement and professional activities for contributors in the food field? > survey
...
SUCESS FACTOR 3: Infrastructure
- What is the minimum infrastructure required to be able to contribute to the project? > General research
- Where is that minimum infrastructure available? Where is it not? > General research
- Do contributors have easy access to that infrastructure? > survey
- ...
SUCCESS FACTOR 4 : Linkages & Trust
- Is the critical information about the project clear and accessible? > General research, survey
- Are the contribution rules clear to contributors? > survey
- Do contributors and users trust the database? > survey
- Do contributors feel like they are listened to? > survey
- Do contributors feel like their contribution is valued/has an impact? > survey
- Do users and contributors feel like they can recommand the project to their peers? > survey
- Do contributors feel like they are part of a community? > survey
- ...
SUCCESS FACTOR 5: External Environment
- What are the environmental factors that play in the project's favor? > General research
- What are the environmental factors that are detrimental to the project? > General research
- ...
