Invitation to the Expert Workshop on Personal Data, Open Data and Privacy

We are happy to invite you to participate in an international expert workshop on Personal Data, Open Data and Privacy in London on the 10th and 11th of June, 2014.  The event is convened by the Open Data and Privacy Project, a joint collaboration between the Open Knowledge Foundation and the Open Rights Group and funded by the Open Society Foundation.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together key communities (in privacy, personal data management, and open data) to identify gaps and issues, and agree on concrete actions and solutions. You will join approximately thirty privacy specialists, computer scientists, social scientists, government and industry representatives, and open data experts.

The workshop is intended to be highly interactive and collaborative, allowing participants to share ideas, and propose and develop solutions together. We expect disagreements in some areas and will not shy away from difficult, if constructive conversations. We would like to agree on some principles to guide open data publishers when faced with personal data. We also expect the workshop to inform the development of a range of materials and direct future actions, from policy interventions to capacity building. After the workshop, these will be laid out in a shared roadmap for delivery and further enquiry.

Your participation would be really important as we feel your area of expertise is closely aligned to the agenda of the workshop.  For more information, please consult the attached information sheet.  The workshop will commence on the morning of June 10th and will end in the afternoon of June 11th. The venue is the Centre for Creative Collaboration (C4CC), at Kings Cross in London. There is a limited budget available to support travel. Please do let us know if you wish to be considered for this.

We very much hope you are able to participate and would be grateful if you could confirm your availability as soon as you are able to.

Best regards,
Dr Laura James (CEO, Open Knowledge Foundation)
Javier Ruiz (Policy Director, Open Rights Group)
Sally Deffor (Coordinator of the Open Data and Privacy Project, Open Knowledge Foundation)
